Spotting Fluid, commonly known as Pipe-Lax, is a highly engineered, oilfield specialty chemical formulated to release differentially stuck drill pipe by penetrating, softening, and lubricating the stuck zone.
It is designed with a synergistic blend of lubricants, surfactants, wetting agents, solvents, and filtrate-reducing components that work together to rapidly reduce sticking forces in challenging drilling environments.
Spotting Fluid exhibits exceptional lubricity, enabling it to lower torque, drag, and contact pressure between the drill string and the wellbore wall. Its low interfacial tension (IFT) allows the fluid to penetrate deeply into compacted filter cakes and mud solids deposited around the pipe during overbalanced drilling. Once inside the filter cake, the chemical blend softens and disperses dehydrated mud solids, breaking the bond that causes the pipe to stick.
