Pregelatinized starch

Pre-Gelatinized Starch is a high-performance, cold-water–soluble polymeric additive designed to control filtrate loss and improve the overall rheological behavior of water-based drilling fluids. It is produced by gelatinizing natural starch under controlled temperature and mechanical shear, followed by drying and milling to achieve instant hydration properties. Because of this pre-processing, the starch becomes fully dispersible and rapidly soluble in both cold and hot water, allowing immediate development of viscosity and filtration control without needing high temperature activation. The product forms a thin, tough, and low-permeability filter cake on the borehole wall, significantly reducing fluid invasion and stabilizing water-sensitive formations.

Pre-Gelatinized Starch is effective in freshwater, brine, KCl, polymer muds, salted systems, and lightly contaminated muds. It performs efficiently in a wide pH range and maintains stability in the presence of calcium and magnesium hardness. The product also improves mud consistency by enhancing carrying capacity, reducing high-pressure fluid loss, and preventing thick filter cake formation.
